One of the mayor features of a lot of is Bluetooth communication technology. In your car you have a carkit, and you use a wireless headset when exercising. But what is it and how does it work?

Bluetooth is a wireless communication standard to transfer data over short distances. This is done via radio wave in the 2.4 GHz frequency range. In your daily life means that it enables you for example to send data from your laptop to your tablet. But also to connect your wireless audio device to your phone, or use the controller of your game console.  The difference with WiFi is that Bluetooth technology aims at short distances (10 meters or less) and that it is used between to personal devices. WiFi spans larger distances (usually up to 100 meters) and its main purpose is to connect devices to a network.

The technology is maintained as a standard which is supported by large number of companies worldwide. Over the years, different versions where introduced which had improved features and quality but also energy efficiency, transfer speed and range. The latest major version (5) improves energy efficiency and introduces other features to further improve the support for Internet of Things technology.

Bluetooth technology is already almost 25 years old, but it is definitely here to stay.
