Xiaomi Duka LS-P Distance Meter Review

We are always looking for the best tools for the best price, and especially Xiaomi tools. Before I bought my first house I never used a tapeline, but since it planned to do most of the installation and reconstructions myself, I had to measure, checking and measure again. And in more than one situation using a traditional measuring tape is always easy. So, here comes a laser range finder and distance meter tool from Xiaomi: the Xiaomi Duka LS-P Distance Meter. It can measure distance, calculate angles and square meters (m2).

Test

The working of Duka LS-P is simple: the laser beam reflects to the target, and the time the laser beam takes to return is measured. This gives an accurate time that is translated in mm. It’s really impressive that it is so precise ( 1mm ) and fast (in 0.2 seconds). However every measurement gives only one distance, when you push the side button you can switch the mode to the one you need. The picture below shows what you can measure with the Xiaomi Duka LS-P Laser range finder.

The maximum range is 40 meters, long enough for everything inside the house. I used it for a couple of weeks and the battery is still good, but the fact that it can be charged by micro USB is very nice.

While testing the Distance Meter, I found that I’d rather had the display been a bit bigger. Because the screen is small, the on screen icons are as well. This means you need to stare a bit to check the settings.

However the Laser Range Finder Infrared Distance Meter from Xiaomi youpin has only two buttons, it has more functions 🙂

Main button on the front:

1,5 seconds: The devices goes automatically off, but when holding the measure button for 1.5 seconds it goes on/off.

0,5 seconds: Click short to start measuring, and again to give results.

3 seconds: Switch measure starting point when pushing 3 seconds.

Build Quality & Design

The build quality of the Xiaomi Duka LS-P Distance Meter is outstanding due to the aluminium magnesium alloy. On the package you can see the claim that it won the Red Dot Design and the German iF Design awards for its quality build in 2019. The sides are rounded that feels nice in the hand.
It feels really solid and can handle a drop, but the screen is a normal screen and not hardened glass, therefore it is possible to get some scratches on the screen.

A handy strap is included and can be fixed at the side bottom of this product.

Portability / Mobility

This product is so small that you can always take it with you. The fact that it can be charged with usb means you can charge it everywhere, in you car for instance.
